Celebrating our next DYL-graduate: Arthur Panfilova

On Friday October 15th Arthur Panfilova presented his Bachelor thesis titled: ‘Redesign of a toolkit aimed to
increase the independence of young autistic adults’ at University of Twente. He can now call himself a BSc in Industrial Design Engineering! His thesis focussed on integrating the work of the first four graduate students within the Design Your Life project into a new toolkit proposal.

In his design case, Arthur iterates on the work of the first four graduate students, resulting in a digital prototype and a physical design proposal. The digital prototype was partly informed by the COVID-19 restrictions that were still in effect when the design case was executed and was used to test the concept with a participant and their design partner. The participants explained they would prefer a physical version of the toolkit to allow for more interactive options. Based on this feedback Arthur created the physical design proposal.

The proposal consists of a board with six cardholders. Each cardholder contains a set of cards. The cards and their respective card holders correspond with the Design Your Life-process: starting with ‘My Situation’, then followed by ‘My Focus’, My Thoughts’, ‘My Thing’ and ‘My Test & Lesson’. The cards guide the participants through a set of exercises and leaves the participants with a personal product that supports their independence. The board folds out to show an overview board. This is used to collect all the insights from the activities, thus informing the design process.
